Critical Reflection

 Module learning

The goals that I have during of the course is to improve the writing skills and to be able to present well for the project presentation showcase, on the start of the module we have learn on how to use the Paul-Elder Framework and the 7 C for the critical thinking and the writing of the report, we also touch on reflective thinking and critical reflection to be able to write on a proper reflection, during the middle of the module we have learn on how to use google scholar and one search to look for proper academic writing for the mars rover which is more helpful then vetting through google search looking for research article which is usable and related to what the project needs, from there we write our own academic writing on what we are supposed to research on like the features and function of the Europe/ China/America mars rover, we proceed on writing our technical report with our team to be presented on what improvement we can made on the existing technology with design faults they have and present of our design improvement that our team choose.

By having an in class project improvement proposal for the team, it was a great opportunity for me to learn the essential of project presentation, improve on my verbal presentation skills and also my sense of confidence during presentation, as compare to online presentation where it is more comfortable in logical as you can have notes laying around the table in the comfort of your home, the presentation showcase require me and my team to be well prepare for the presentation as presentation notes is not feasible during presentation, and you need to present to the whole class with them judging our presentation skills, however I was prepare for it as we really know our material well as we are the ones researching about it, our team also rehearse a few time before the day of the presentation.

My weakness is still the fright from presentation still get through me as you can see me going through slides quickly, and the monotonous of my speech, however, due to that I was well prepared as I know my materials during the presentation, it enables to have more confidence when presenting.

The keys take-away for presentation to know the research material well so that you can pitch with your mind, built confidence by rehearsing, and have a good presentation slide on the proposal to talk on.

Project learning

One of the focus which I am going to talk about is the research of the SMA wheel data, due the SMA wheel that is just being recently invented by NASA, so there is not much of the scholar data or secondary data to research and tap on so we need to have a discussion on what to research for the SMA wheels, so we need to discuss and make a goal on what do we need to research on, and this is what my team came up with, firstly why do NASA wanted to use the specific material like the Nickel titanium alloy (Nitinol) from one of the many the shape memory alloy, the temperature limits of the material as mars have a wide range of temperature over the seasons, and how durable the material is as NASA cannot provide maintenance for the rover, secondly the system that we are focusing on is new like the perseverance is just recently launch and there is not much coverage on the suspension system, but my team leader have a focus in mind and they know what to research on which bring us to have a successful research, the team writing skill is good as they are able to pick up important and needed on the raw data that we research on, and paraphrasing the research data into which they can interlink with each other, for the presentation skills, since they know the materials they are talking about they are able to present smoothly with every section linking with each other, and my team lead, since he is experience on material science as his past course was about that, he was able to explain much on the SMA wheel material and how the material work when the audience are asking on the SMA wheels-how does the material works when we are on the Q and A.
